    Hi team,

Long track speed skating--it's a spectacular venue. The price tag was $270 million--ours was a bargain at 10 percent that amount. Really.

Our friend, gold medalist Darek Para, is coaching the US team, and our friend Johann Olav Koss, gold medalist, is coaching Norway's. Our men are off to a good start, but Canada and the Netherlands will be tough competitors.

You might note that I'm wearing the Salt Lake team shirt--everything here brings back memories of our favorite Games.

Just watched women's freestyle moguls. It's raining, but the snow is fine for the event. And the crowd is very much in to moment, cheering athletes regardless of their country.

Went to USA House to buy Ann a team sweater for Valentines Day--in the attached photo, she is wearing the free hat she was given. We saw Nancy Kerrigan there and expressed our sympathy. Also saw Meridith Viera and her son Ben--she is as bright and enthusiastic as on TV.

On to short track speed skating.

No better way to see figure skating than with my favorite--Kristi Yamaguchi, gold medalist, and grace on ice. A truly beautiful and gracious star. She featured in the Opening Ceremonies in Salt Lake City's 2002 Games. She is blogging for MSNBC.

No better way to see hockey than with this guy--Mike Eruzione, captain of the gold medal "miracle on ice" 1980 Olympic hockey team. Mike's been a long time friend and fellow Massachusetts resident. They don't get better than Mike.

  • A Great Victory for Massachusetts and the Country

All of us are still basking in Scott Brown's historic U.S. Senate victory. It's still hard to believe that we were able to pull it off against all the odds.

Mitt Romney Introduces Scott Brown - Victory Night: January 19, 2010:

Congratulations to Scott Brown on an historic victory

Scott Brown thanks Mitt Romney during his victory speech:

Making a difference in campaigns like Scott's is why I formed my Free and Strong America PAC . Without your support, none of what we do at the PAC would be possible.

  • Help the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti

Ann and I send our prayers and thoughts to the people of Haiti as they recover from this week's devastating earthquake. Let's do what we can to help. If you would like to donate to the Red Cross, click here:  http://bit.ly/5eLsDZ

  • This will be our year -- but only if we all stand together

It seems that almost every day now brings a fresh story of another well-known Democrat incumbent not seeking re-election. And in 8 days from now, what many thought was unthinkable may happen -- Republican Scott Brown may be elected to late Senator Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts. If successful, Scott would be the first Republican Senator in Massachusetts in 30 years.

I know Scott and how determined he is to win. I've campaigned for him, raised money on his behalf and we're doing all we can to help him over the finish line.

Something is brewing in Massachusetts and all over the country, and I have a prediction to make -- for our cause, and for all those who speak for it with no apology, this will be our year.

The conservative movement is gaining momentum every day and we must keep it going during the weeks and months ahead. This all-important midterm election year will have far-reaching consequences and we must do everything we can to elect conservative candidates throughout the country.

That is why I am asking you to take the extraordinary step of signing up to make a recurring monthly contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or whatever amount you can afford to my Free and Strong America PAC. Your generous monthly support will ensure that we have the resources to continue our efforts to help Republicans take back the House and Senate in November.

Of course, nothing is certain in politics, but we can be certain about this: Our belief in the greatness of America and our dedication to keeping this nation strong are needed today as much as they have ever been needed in our past. I hope you will stand with me today.

And even if you don't wish to make a recurring monthly contribution at this time, I hope you will consider making a one time contribution toward our efforts of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 $2,500 or even the maximum $5,000. Your early support will go a long way toward laying the foundation for Republican victories in November.

  • Stimulate the Economy, Not the Government. My thoughts on my Meet the Press interview this weekend

Yesterday I had an appearance on Meet the Press on the economy. I made three central points.

First, I warned about the continued funding of the economy with public sector debt. This policy will destroy the private market in the long run. As I said on the program, this is not a partisan issue, it's a "growth of government" issue, and we have to address it now or America's future could be very much in jeopardy.

Second, I reiterated my belief that it's time to end the TARP program and use the repaid funds to buy down the unthinkably  high debt we've amassed.

And finally, I made the point that instead of passing a second stimulus, Congress ought to revisit the first stimulus and replace unproductive spending with job-creating incentives that will get our private economy moving again. The fact we're even considering a second stimulus is an admission that the first stimulus was a failure.

  • A Thanksgiving message from Mitt Romney

"As we reunite with our families on the Thanksgiving holiday, we are reminded once again of our military men and women, standing watch in dangerous places to protect our liberties at home. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for their service, and with emotion for the families that mourn an empty place at the table, now filled with tender memories of those who in loving sacrifice have laid down their lives."

Mitt Romney's statement on Veterans Day

    11/11/2009

"As Americans pause to reflect on the service of veterans, I want to express my appreciation for our active military stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world, separated from families and loved ones, who dutifully carry out the mission of keeping the nation safe from its enemies. The Fort Hood massacre is a reminder of the threats we face, both at home and abroad. On this day of remembrance, we are called to remain vigilant, thankful for the contributions of so many who once wore the uniform and mindful of the sacrifices currently being made in defense of freedom and liberty."

  • Republican Victories

What a great election yesterday! It's exhilarating to wake up to headlines of conservative victories in the battleground elections in Virginia and New Jersey. The American people have sent a very strong message to the liberals in Washington, DC that big government is not the answer, and that conservatism is still alive and well.

With your help , we've been working hard at my Free and Strong America PAC to spread the core principles that are at the heart of making America a stronger nation and which fortify our party -- that a competitive America is one where taxes are low and government is small, that our military superiority must never be compromised, that our cultural values need to be cherished and that unleashing the power of the free market is key to our economic future.

We worked extremely hard on behalf of Bob McDonnell and the entire Republican ticket in Virginia, and helped him close strong with a full day of campaigning in the final week; in New Jersey, we endorsed Chris Christie early and made sure he had the resources to be competitive against his better-financed opponent; in Michigan, we raised money for Republican Mike Nofs, who captured a key State Senate seat previously held by a Democrat; and we worked tirelessly for our friend and ally Barbara Comstock, a leading fixture in the conservative movement, who won an uphill fight for a House of Delegates seat in Virginia, where she'll be a reliable vote for Governor-elect McDonnell's conservative agenda.

We didn't stop there. So far in 2009, my PAC has donated nearly $120,000 to candidates and conservative causes around the nation, including a last-minute $5,000 donation to Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in New York's 23rd congressional district. I've given speeches at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the Club for Growth, the Values Voter Summit, the Heritage Foundation, the Foreign Policy Initiative conference and the AIPAC National Summit. Each of these events helped promote our shared conservative ideals and hopefully influenced the debate on the critical issues facing us.

We should be proud of what we have accomplished together; but this is no time to rest on our laurels. We must begin building upon these victories today to ensure that we have the resources we need to take back the Congress in 2010. Next year I'll also be traveling the country talking about my upcoming book, "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness," which will be published in March. I believe that the decisions we make today will determine what course America takes, and I want to make sure we remain the world's economic and military superpower.

Will you stand with us by making a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $1,000 -- all the way to the maximum of $5,000 -- toward this effort

Republicans are well positioned to show new strength as a party this year. We will take that momentum into the crucial 2010 mid-terms. Our work begins anew. With you by our side, we are sure that today's victories are the first of many to come.

  • Stumping in Virginia

     Content Image

I spent all of Wednesday stumping in Virginia with the Republican ticket, Bob McDonnell, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and attorney general candidate Ken Cuccinelli. It was a full day of campaigning.

I went to fight for a team that I believe is going to make Virginia a shining light for the entire nation. Virginia needs new leadership which will make a difference for the whole country. These men are clearly dedicated to promoting our conservative values.

Thanks for your support in helping to get conservative candidates elected all over the nation.

  • VIDEO: Is your family ready for a $1,761 a year tax increase?

In the guise of addressing climate change, President Obama has asked Congress to pass a cap and trade program that will have a devastating impact on hard-working American families and on our economy as a whole. The House has already passed a version of this legislation, and just last week, Senators Barbara Boxer and John Kerry answered the President’s call by introducing a cap and trade bill in the Senate.

    Content Image

This cap and trade bill represents an enormous, hidden tax on the American people and American businesses, and it must be defeated. As you may recall, candidate Obama promised not to raise taxes “by one dime” on people making less than $250,000 a year. His cap and trade program will demolish that promise.

In fact, estimates are that the Obama plan could cost the average American family $1,761 a year, the equivalent of a 15% income tax hike. It will kill jobs and make a bad economic situation even worse.  And because it will simply move greenhouse gas emitters from America to other nations like China, it won’t do a thing to affect climate change.

This is why I’m writing you to ask if you will join me in opposing this cap and trade legislation by taking two important steps today.

First, please make your most generous contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or even the maximum $5,000 to my Free and Strong America PAC. Together, we’ll be able to make our voice heard and send a very direct message to the Congress and the President.

Second, please spread the word to at least five of your family and friends, asking them to join our cause and stop this legislation before it is too late.

Our dedication to keeping this nation strong is needed today as much as it has ever been needed in our past. I’m so glad I can count on you.
