Here we go again. Rather than providing much needed leadership on the oil spill crisis, President Obama and the liberals in Congress instead are trying to use it as an excuse to push through a cap and trade program -- yet another big government initiative that will do nothing to stem the millions of gallons of oil spilling into the ocean, and which will have a negative impact on hard-working American families and the economy as a whole.
As Governor of Massachusetts, I declined to sign onto a regional cap and trade program because of my concern that it will raise energy prices for businesses and families. Unfortunately, my Democratic successor joined that agreement, known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), and the result has been higher electricity prices for everyone, despite claims from advocates who said energy bills will go down.
Cap and trade effectively constitutes an enormous, hidden tax on the American people and American businesses. It will lead to higher joblessness and make a bad economic situation even worse. And because it will simply move greenhouse gas emitters from America to other nations like China, it won't do a thing to affect climate change.
This cap and trade program must be defeated. Will you stand with me in helping to make our voices heard by making a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500, or even the maximum $5,000 to my PAC today?
At a time when we need leaders who will focus on solving the problems facing this nation today -- stopping the oil spill, strengthening our economy, and creating an environment in which job creation can thrive -- we instead have leaders more interested in growing government. Whether it's cap and trade, a costly stimulus bill, auto company bailouts, job-killing card check legislation, or a health care law that imposes higher taxes, President Obama and the liberals controlling Congress have come down on the side of big government over and over again.
It is time that we make our voices heard and say enough is enough. I hope you will stand with me in doing so today.
Last night in Miami, peaceful protestors marched in support of Las Damas de Blanco (Ladies in White) whose relatives are imprisoned by Castro's government. I stand with them, as do all freedom-loving Americans. The recent hunger strike death of Cuban political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo reminds us why we should never sit down and talk with Fidel Castro so long as he continues to jail his own people for advocating democracy.
Since announcing our new Prescription for Repeal initiative this week, we've had a busy few days here at my Free and Strong America PAC.
The generosity of Americans like you across the country has already given us the resources to endorse and send nearly $20,000 in monetary support to fiscally-conservative leaders running in Ohio and Missouri who will work to repeal the worst aspects of Obamacare, restore commonsense principles to healthcare, and focus on getting our economy moving again.
Here are the first states and candidates to receive help:
· Representative Jean Schmidt, running for reelection in
· Representative Steve Chabot, running to reclaim his seat in
· Steve Stivers, running to represent
· Representative
· Representative Jo Ann Emerson, running for reelection in
· Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer, running for reelection in
· Representative Sam Graves, running for reelection in
· Ed Martin, running to represent
· Tom Schweich, running to become Missouri State Auditor
In the coming weeks, we will continue to help candidates like these as part of our Prescription for Repeal program -- but we can only do so with your continued generosity. Will you stand with me in this effort with a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500, or even the maximum $5,000?
I hope I can count on your continued support in the days ahead. Working together, we will move forward -- confident in our beliefs, and certain of victories to come.
President Obama's healthcare bill is unhealthy for
Health care reform shouldn't mean higher taxes, cuts to our seniors on Medicare, insurance price controls or greater federal involvement in our lives. But unfortunately that's just what we're getting.
That is why I am writing to you today to announce a new initiative at my Free and Strong America PAC called "Prescription for Repeal." Over the coming weeks and months, my PAC will be providing GOP candidates with the support and funding they need to defeat Democrats who supported ObamaCare.
Will you stand with me in this effort with a generous contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500, or even the maximum $5,000 ? It is only with your support, and the support of Americans like you across the country, that we can make our voices heard and effect the real change that Americans deserve.
It is up to us to leave our children and grandchildren an America that is as strong and prosperous as the one we inherited from our parents, and what we do at times like these is critical. I hope you will stand with me today.
Hi team,
Long track speed skating--it's a spectacular venue. The price tag was $270 million--ours was a bargain at 10 percent that amount. Really.
Our friend, gold medalist Darek Para, is coaching the US team, and our friend Johann Olav Koss, gold medalist, is coaching Norway's. Our men are off to a good start, but Canada and the Netherlands will be tough competitors.
You might note that I'm wearing the Salt Lake team shirt--everything here brings back memories of our favorite Games.

Just watched women's freestyle moguls. It's raining, but the snow is fine for the event. And the crowd is very much in to moment, cheering athletes regardless of their country.
Went to USA House to buy Ann a team sweater for Valentines Day--in the attached photo, she is wearing the free hat she was given. We saw Nancy Kerrigan there and expressed our sympathy. Also saw Meridith Viera and her son Ben--she is as bright and enthusiastic as on TV.
On to short track speed skating.

No better way to see figure skating than with my favorite--Kristi Yamaguchi, gold medalist, and grace on ice. A truly beautiful and gracious star. She featured in the Opening Ceremonies in Salt Lake City's 2002 Games. She is blogging for MSNBC.

No better way to see hockey than with this guy--Mike Eruzione, captain of the gold medal "miracle on ice" 1980 Olympic hockey team. Mike's been a long time friend and fellow Massachusetts resident. They don't get better than Mike.
All of us are still basking in Scott Brown's historic U.S. Senate victory. It's still hard to believe that we were able to pull it off against all the odds.
Mitt Romney Introduces Scott Brown - Victory Night: January 19, 2010:
Congratulations to Scott Brown on an historic victory
Scott Brown thanks Mitt Romney during his victory speech:
Making a difference in campaigns like Scott's is why I formed my Free and Strong America PAC . Without your support, none of what we do at the PAC would be possible.
Ann and I send our prayers and thoughts to the people of Haiti as they recover from this week's devastating earthquake. Let's do what we can to help. If you would like to donate to the Red Cross, click here: http://bit.ly/5eLsDZ
