  • Governor Romney's statement on the eighth anniversary of September 11, 2001

"Today we celebrate the fallen. It's difficult for our minds to imagine a human darkness so wicked that it celebrates the destruction of innocent lives. We remember each victim, whether taken in unknowing sacrifice or succumbing to death after heroic struggle. They stand in our mind's eye in the brilliant light of love, faith and patriotism. America's heart will always be open to them, and our resolve is strengthened by their memory."

  • Nancy Pelosi is wrong

As anyone who follows history and politics knows, there has always been a very healthy debate on the issues in our country.

Yet, now that conservatives are expressing their disapproval of President Obama's proposed health care plan, liberals are suddenly very critical of dissent and debate. Earlier this week, Speaker Pelosi accused honest citizens expressing their views on health care of being "un-American." And why? Because they disagree with her on the need for a new government insurance program.

Our Founding Fathers would be very surprised by Speaker Pelosi's attempt to clamp down on dissent. This nation was founded by patriots who staged the ultimate protest in declaring their independence from a distant and out-of-touch government. The rights to peacefully assemble and petition our elected officials are guaranteed by the Constitution. What Nancy Pelosi doesn't understand is that our differences and disagreements don't make us weaker; they make us stronger.

This is a critical time for our nation, and a lot of the issues we’re debating now will affect generations to come. All of us have a duty to press on ... a duty to state our case without fear of government reprisal.

That is why I’m writing to you to take two important steps today.

First, I encourage you to make your feelings on the health care bill known by calling the White House at (202) 456-1111 and your congressional representatives at (202) 224-3121. Let them know that dissenting is the most "American" thing one can do and that you have very real concerns about the cost and scope of this legislation.

Second, I hope you will consider making a contribution to my Free and Strong America PAC today. Your generous contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or even the maximum $5,000 will go a long way toward making sure that we push back when big government liberals like Nancy Pelosi try to stifle debate because they don't like it when ordinary Americans disagree with their far-left agenda.

Thank you again for your support and all that you do to ensure that our country remains free and strong.

  • Say No to Government Insurance

    Content Image

Health care costs are spiraling out of control, and tens of millions of Americans can't afford health insurance. President Obama and the Democrats believe the solution to these problems is a new government insurance program that will compete with the private sector. This is a course that threatens free markets. It is wrong for America.

Reform of our health care system can be accomplished by strengthening the private insurance system, as we did in Massachusetts when I was Governor. Strip away burdensome regulations to get the cost of insurance policies down. Take some of the taxpayer money we're now spending on free care and use it to help buy insurance for the needy.

But the last thing Congress and the President should do is create another big government program. The most important lesson from the Massachusetts health care reform is that you don't need a new "public option" to get insurance to more people.

Will you join me in fighting for sensible health care reform and against President Obama's plans for a new government insurance program? Your most generous contribution to my Free and Strong America PAC will give us the resources we need to make our voice heard on this and other critical issues facing our nation.

We have a lot of work to do over the coming year, and I hope I'll have you standing by my side. But with it being summertime, I hope you don't forget to take some time to have some fun too. To help, as a special thank you for your continued support, we're happy to offer the following official PAC summer gear:

       - For a contribution of at least $25, we'll send you a flying disc with the PAC's logo on it.

       - For a contribution of $60, we'll send you the flying disc and a PAC tote bag.

       - And, for a contribution of $100, we'll send you the flying disc, tote bag, and a PAC beach towel.

Thank you again for your continued support and dedication.

  • Mitt Romney's statement on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court

Former Governor Mitt Romney today issued the following statement regarding the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court:

The nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court is troubling. Her public statements make it clear she has an expansive view of the role of the judiciary. Historically, the Court is where judges interpret the Constitution and apply the law. It should never be the place "where policy is made," as Judge Sotomayor has said. Like any nominee, she deserves a fair and thorough hearing. What the American public deserves is a judge who will put the law above her own personal political philosophy.

  • Cheney vs. Obama by Mitt Romney

Two speeches, two very different men. Former Vice President Cheney seeks no political future. He speaks from the vantage of one who witnessed the killing of our fellow citizens, who deliberated and defined the strategy that would successfully prevent further murders of our fellow Americans.

His address today was direct, well-reasoned, and convincing.

President Obama, on the other hand, continues to speak as a politician. Contrary to the advice I and others gave him, he has placed two of his top political consultants in the West Wing, looking to them to opine on matters of national security. Barack Obama is having a hard time going from politician to president. His speech and his policies have one foot in campaign mode and another in presidential mode. He struggles to explain how he is keeping faith with the liberal advocates who promoted his campaign but in doing so, he breaks faith with the interests of the American people. When it comes to protecting the nation, we have a conflicted president. And his address today was more tortured than the enhanced interrogation techniques he decries.

It is laughable to suggest that Guantanamo is a meaningful aid in terrorist recruiting. Before Guantanamo came the first bombing of the World Trade Center, the bombing at Riyadh, the attacks on Khobar, the bombing of our embassies, the Cole. There will always be rallying cries for recruitment whether it is the existence of Israel or the freedoms enjoyed by Americans. Appeasement has not ever, does not now, and will never satisfy a foe who looks to destroy freedom and rule the world.

Vice President Cheney has been the target of every media, from mainstream to comic. But he spoke today as before without regard to the politics but with abiding respect for the truth. Barack Obama is still hanging on to the campaign trail. He said that the last thing he thinks about when he goes to sleep at night is keeping America safe. That's a big difference with Vice President Cheney—when it came to protecting Americans, he never went to sleep.

  • The golf shirt & water bottle

Vice President Biden was right that the new president would be tested early in his administration. What the world learned was not good news for freedom and democracy.

Recently, Iranian President Ahmadinejad announced that his nation has successfully mastered every step necessary to enrich uranium, violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty it has signed. And North Korea's Kim Jong Il launched a long-range missile on the very day President Obama addressed the world about the peril of nuclear proliferation.

In both instances the world's equation for peace and security was altered, and the Obama administration chose inaction.

It is true that we are still very early in the Obama years -- the president will have ample opportunity to defend America and freedom, and to deter nuclear brinkmanship. I, like many other Americans, am hoping for a stronger foreign policy.

But we need to do more than hope -- we need to be doing everything we can to promote our shared conservative principles and ensure that Republicans take back Congress in 2010. And with your continued support and encouragement, my PAC and I will be working day and night to do just that.

Will you be willing to stand with me and make a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 -- all the way to the maximum $5,000 -- to my PAC ?  Your assistance will give us the resources to bring the conservative change we need to Washington and get America back on the right track

As a special thank you, if you contribute at least $30, we'll send you our official PAC water bottle so that you can show everyone where you stand. And if you contribute at least $100, we'll send you our official PAC golf shirt in addition to the water bottle.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication

  • From Bad to Worse by Mitt Romney

GM's new proposal, clearly produced under government duress, is worse than virtually any of the alternatives. It would give GM to the UAW and the U.S. government and make taxpayers pick up the bills. Of course, billions more from government would be drawn down right away. But the UAW could also depend on the Obama administration to keep up the subsidy for years and years to come. Government and Union co-ownership: It would be as ineffective as it is un-American.

The right course for GM is an out-of-court restructuring or bankruptcy. Either would keep the company in business and rid it of burdensome costs, work rules and obligations. The government could backstop the post-restructuring debt, helping the company get on its feet. GM must not fail: If its costs are brought in line with its competition, it can ultimately thrive and grow jobs. What is proposed is even worse than bankruptcy—it would make GM the living dead.

  • Opening Day: Official PAC Baseball Card, Hat, and Signed Baseball

    Content Image

It's Opening Day, and time to have some fun. For me, the first pitch of the Major League Baseball season means that winter is finally over and spring is here. I remember all the fun I had as a parent taking my boys to Fenway Park. We still have season tickets, and I'll be rooting for the Red Sox all season long. But whether you're rooting for the BoSox or for your own favorite team, there's one thing on which we can all agree - the need to keep promoting our conservative agenda and take back Congress in 2010.

I'm troubled by some of the decisions of the Democrat-controlled Congress and the Obama administration. America voted for change, but not this kind of change. We did not vote for a boat-load of new government spending programs that would ensure higher taxes and high deficits as far as the eye can see and that will threaten our currency, our economy, and our future.

At my PAC, we are fighting for policies that will keep America the world's economic and military superpower. Today, as much as ever, conservative principles are absolutely essential to keeping America strong, prosperous, and free.

That's why I am writing you - as one of our key team members - to ask if you'd consider making a contribution of $25, $50, $75, $100, $250, or more, to my PAC. Your generous contribution will enable me to have the resources to help Republican candidates and promote conservative principles so that we can reclaim our majorities in 2010.

And as a special thank you to those of you willing to step up to the plate, we're happy to offer the following gifts to members of the Free and Strong America team:

    - For a contribution of at least $25, we'll send you my official PAC baseball card.

    - For a contribution of at least $75, we'll send you both the card and our official red baseball cap - so you can display your team color with pride.

    - And, for a contribution of $250 or more, we'll not only send you the card and hat, but I will also send you a hand-signed baseball.

It may seem like early in the season, but what we do now will help ensure we have the resources we need to win. Thank you for being a part of our team.

  • Five for the Future

    Content Image

We're in the second year of a major recession, and we need to get our economy moving again. Americans have already lost some $12 trillion in net worth as their homes plummet in value and their retirement savings are pulverized into dust.

Right now, the future course of America will depend in many ways on the decisions of President Obama. Those choices are his to make, whether or not we see eye to eye. We wish him the best, but we won't be afraid to disagree with him when we must.

Contrary to what you hear from some commentators on the left, the 2008 elections did very little to settle the most serious differences of opinion in American politics. Some of those issues were hardly debated at all in the fall campaign. As conservatives in opposition, we have a duty to press on ... a duty to state our case with confidence.

And we need the help of you, and every other member of our team, to ensure that our voice is heard.

That is why I am writing to ask you to take the small, but important step of signing up for a new initiative at my PAC called "Five for the Future." Getting involved is easy. All you have to do is one -- or both -- of the following things today:

    1. First, I encourage you to sign up to make a recurring monthly contribution to my PAC of at least $5. Your monthly donation -- together with the donations of others on our team -- will go a long way toward ensuring we have the resources to support candidates like the Undaunted Dozen who are targeted for sticking to their fiscally conservative principles.

    2. Second, whether or not you can contribute at this time, I ask that you forward this email to five of your friends and family members and encourage them to get involved with this effort. We need to grow our team as much as possible if we are going to make a difference at this critical time in our nation's history.

America's challenges are great, and we don't get to choose the tests and trials ahead. But we will meet them as conservatives have done before. We will find strength in each other, and answer our opponents with good will and honest words. And we will go forward -- confident in our beliefs, and certain of victories to come.

We have a lot of work to do to reclaim our majorities in Congress in 2010 as a first step in setting our nation back on the road to prosperity. Your monthly contribution of at least $5 will get us started.

Thank you for your continued support.

  • The Undaunted Dozen

     Content Image

I wanted to make sure you heard the news that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is targeting 12 House Republicans who voted against the $800 billion wasteful stimulus bill. They stood their ground and voted no -- and they were absolutely right. Now, the Democrats are mounting a major grassroots campaign against them. I want to do everything I can to help these courageous representatives and other candidates like them.

Yesterday, I announced that my Free and Strong America PAC will be sending $1,000 checks to each of these congressmen who are running for re-election in 2010  with a promise to do whatever we can to help them fend off political attacks from the liberals.

What conservatives wanted in the stimulus debate was a bill to strengthen the economy. The Democrats couldn't restrain themselves from throwing in tens of billions of tax dollars for their political friends and special interest groups. What we ended up with was a bill that stimulates the government!

For the last several years, liberals have been griping about the $700 billion that was spent over the last six years to win freedom in Iraq. They have now spent more than that in 30 days. And with a government almost $12 trillion in debt, they are putting at risk the creditworthiness of the United States.

Please help me support our fellow conservatives in standing firm against wasteful spending and excessive borrowing by making a contribution to my PAC today.
