Governor Romney today issued the following statement on House passage of the healthcare bill:
"America has just witnessed an unconscionable abuse of power. President Obama has betrayed his oath to the nation — rather than bringing us together, ushering in a new kind of politics, and rising above raw partisanship, he has succumbed to the lowest denominator of incumbent power: justifying the means by extolling the ends. He promised better; we deserved better.
He calls his accomplishment “historic” — in this he is correct, although not for the reason he intends. Rather, it is an historic usurpation of the legislative process — he unleashed the nuclear option, enlisted not a single Republican vote in either chamber, bribed reluctant members of his own party, paid-off his union backers, scapegoated insurers, and justified his act with patently fraudulent accounting. What Barack Obama has ushered into the American political landscape is not good for our country; in the words of an ancient maxim, “what starts twisted, ends twisted.”
His health-care bill is unhealthy for America. It raises taxes, slashes the more private side of Medicare, installs price controls, and puts a new federal bureaucracy in charge of health care. It will create a new entitlement even as the ones we already have are bankrupt. For these reasons and more, the act should be repealed. That campaign begins today."

Amen and amen. What a sad political move, and it won't end happily.

I enjoyed meeting the governor in Palm Beach, Florida. Saying the health care bill should be repealed is to easy, you have to look at the long pull. There are thirty million people that believe this will benefit them with a new entitlement. The smarter approach is to immediately develop a framework of reform of the existing law. In addition, the governor is an expert on account of his service in Massachusetts on the pros and cons of a statewide system. No other leading politician in the country can realistically state that claim. If the governor is considering running again, his campaign should have a positive and knowledgeable thrust on policy. The short term is a know nothing angry approach. We have to beat the opposition at their own game, and this requires some sophistication as well as plain talk.
Thanks.

Please stay strong, Mr. Romney, Americans are counting on you. You are a strong leader who isn't afraid to take a stand for the future of our beautiful nation. There are so many of us out here, almost in shock, watching this complete abuse of power. Thank you for what you do...we do appreciate your leadership.

Governor Romney,
We desperately need you out in front of this argument. This is the time for the American people to reclaim our principles and our dignity. We need to hear your strong voice guided by your steady hand in this process. I predict you will be the next President of the United States. It's time to take on that mantle now.
Good luck, God Bless, and a lot of folks are poised and ready to help you succeed.
