Content ImageAs a lifelong resident of Bexar County, Lyle Larson has served his community for sixteen years as a city councilman and county commissioner.  Through fiscal discipline, independent thinking and a deep understanding of the issues, he earned a reputation as a responsible leader, able to solve tough problems affecting Texans today.

As a successful small business owner of 22 years, Larson understands the need to control spending.  He led the effort to improve transportation and infrastructure, strengthen public safety and protect thousands of armed forces jobs in Military City, USA, without raising taxes.

Career Highlights:

  • As Chairman of the Military Transformation Task Force, Larson protected San Antonio’s military facilities during the 2005 BRAC round. He helped turn a projected loss of more than 1,000 jobs into a net gain of nearly 11,000 jobs, establishing South Texas as the home of all medical military medical training in the United States.
  • As the lone Republican on the commissioners’ court, Larson led the effort to lower the tax rate 7 times during his 11 years in office, saving taxpayers over $150 million.
  • Larson led the 2005 effort to enact the Senior Tax Freeze which, combined with the Senior Homestead Exemption, will save taxpayers 65 and over an estimated $77 million in 2007-2008.
  • Larson voted against and refused to accept all pay raises for county commissioners, saving taxpayers more than $300,000. He currently earns half the going rate for a county commissioner.
  • Larson helped create and fund Project Push and Project Swift, programs designed to increase adoptions of young children and teenagers. In just four years, Bexar County’s adoption rate has more than tripled and now leads the nation.
