Mitt Romney's Free and Strong America PAC Raises $1.6 million in the First Six Months of 2009

Mitt Romney’s Free and Strong America PAC today filed its July finance report with the Federal Election Commission, closing out its first six months of activity in 2009. The PAC reported raising $1.6 million from January 1 to June 30, 2009. Contributions to state and federal candidates in this off-election year totaled $74,274.

The PAC started this year with $337,976 cash on hand. From January 1, 2009, through June 30, 2009, it raised $1,610,019. After expenditures, the PAC ended the six-month period with $841,568 cash on hand.

Mitt Romney formed the Free and Strong America PAC because he believes in the importance of helping Republican candidates and promoting conservative causes around the country. In the past six months, Mitt Romney’s Free and Strong America PAC contributed $36,474 to federal candidates and committees, and an additional $26,800 to state candidates

Mitt Romney’s Free and Strong America PAC also has five state affiliates in Alabama, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, which did not conduct any fundraising. However, during the first six months of 2009, the New Hampshire PAC contributed out of its existing balances the maximum $1,000 toward Jeb Bradley’s successful campaign to become a New Hampshire State Senator, and an additional $10,000 to the New Hampshire GOP.

The federal PAC’s contributions include $5,000 each to Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Republican Whip Eric Cantor (VA-07), Missouri Representative Roy Blunt who is running for U.S. Senate, and Jim Tedisco who ran in a special election to represent New York’s 20th congressional district. It also contributed $1,000 each to the “Undaunted Dozen,” a group of House Republicans targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for their votes against the $800 billion stimulus bill. The PAC contributed the maximum $6,800 to Chris Christie’s New Jersey gubernatorial campaign, and $5,000 each to Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, Virginia Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, Virginia Attorney General candidate Ken Cuccinelli, and Virginia House of Delegates candidate Barbara Comstock.
